Ten-Day Field Study in the Atlas Mountains

Embark on a mesmerizing 10-day journey through Morocco, where history, culture, and natural beauty converge. This immersive adventure will take you from the vibrant city of Marrakech to the serene Atlas Mountains and beyond. Along the way, you'll delve into the rich tapestry of Moroccan life, explore ancient traditions, and connect with welcoming locals. 

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech, airport pickup, and transfer to your Marrakech hotel.

Day 2: Morning historical tour in the Marrakech medina, including visits to Koutoubia Mosque, Saadien tombs, and Ben Youssef Medrassa. Lunch in the medina. Afternoon drive to the Atlas Mountains, with a stop in Imlil and a walk to Aremd village. Check-in to your inn for the night.

Day 3: Morning presentation on geography and geology, followed by a descent to the river and a dirt track to Berdoun village. Picnic lunch. Afternoon return to Aremd.

Day 4: Morning presentation on community dynamics, family life, traditions, and customs. Visit Berber families in the village. Engage with village council members ("lajmaat") on community projects.

Day 5: Morning lecture on agriculture and irrigation systems. Descend to Ourjim and then to Talat Ouaouzlit. Explore plant diversity and irrigation systems. Learn about water canal management.

Day 6: Morning session on Berber architecture. Walk through Ouaoughraste woods to Tamaterte village. Explore Berber homes and buildings. Continue to Ait Souka village. Lunch in the village.

Day 7: Morning lecture on Islamic faith. Visit old and new mosques and Sidi Chamharouche sacred site. Lunch at Sidi Chamharouche. Return to Armed via Isswale.

Day 8: Review group reports and interact with the local community. Enjoy lunch and Berber music performances at the inn.

Day 9: Pack and walk downhill to Imlil for your transfer back to Marrakech. Lunch in a local restaurant. Free time in Marrakech.

Day 10: Departure day. Transfer to Marrakech airport for your international flight.
